Builders and Pilots of the RV-12 are encouraged to participate!
Converting my airframe to Skyview entails some changes and additions. Sure is looking good though!

Panel for EAB RV12
I am moving quickly on my build and then ran into a small speed bump. I am building a RV12 as an experimental amateur built not as an ELSA as many of you on this site. The issue is Van’s couldn’t provide a CAD drawing with measurements. No issue with Van’s, I do understand EAB means I am on my own. I was fortunate enough to find Bill at Up North Aviation. He reverse engineered the panel and was able to provide me a solution. He created a thin test version for my validation for fit in…

Doris Solia
All those messages from Doris are exactly the same as the message sent to hundreds and hundreds of other folks on other web sites. Seems Doris is from some African country and this has all the ear marks of some scam.

CG was a bit too much fwd, tail installation should bring it aft enough.

I had to take my project to an airshow tomorrow, so what better to pull it there than with my "spare" engine that I keep in my Honda Fit.

Finally got an engine mounted to the airframe! Sure feels good to be able to pull it around with an engine on it. Our EAA chapter is having a flyin=drivein this Saturday, I am going to actually trailer it to the show!

Sun n Fun Viking RV12 Forum
I got a call tonight from Bob Curtis, scheduler for the forums at Sun n Fun. There was one opening left for a forum on alternative engines and he wanted to know if I was interested. I discussed it with Jan and we will try to put a program together. The date is March 27, Tuesday, at 11 o'clock, room 10. I will have more information before show. The talk will be about the RV12 Viking package, flying with the Viking, installation questions, and we hope to have a video of the performance…

Got my engine mounts and muffler back today, just look at that shine! (Photo posted in the photo section). Typical of a stainless polish job, it is more attractive than chrome even, and should brighten up my engine compartment.

As you can see by the photos, I received my Viking engine! Sure is nice to be able to look it overand prepare things for its mounting. I sent off the muffler and engine mounts to a professional polishing company who will make them all look like they are chrome! I have heard this will add at least 3-5 knots to top speed and give me bragging rights to those who did not polish them..

My Viking engine made it in to the local shipper terminal Friday morning. I asked them if I could pick it up, they declined, and will deliver it Monday. I would have had a much better weekend if I could have been petting it here at my house.

Not a lot of traffic on the site lately unless there is a TFR around 12Town
I am not aware of a TFR so 12Town members post your status of your project as of January 2012.
I am 60% done with the finish kit and expect to start the power kit in a few weeks. Still on track for paint in April.
Matco hubs and valve stem
Has anyone had issues putting the washer and nut on the tube valve stem?
I have one wheel together, but the other one doesn't have enough thread for the nut to bite.

Prop Pitch on RV12 Viking
Flew the RV12 Viking for 2.1 hours today. Started out with a pitch of 13.5 degrees. Ran full throttle at an average of 5,600 RPM going North, South East West for about three minutes in each direction. I flew until there was no longer an increase in speed. Averaged altitude was 5,100 MSL. All speed were recorded in each direction and average out to 135.5 MPH. Coolant temp stayed around 200 degrees f.
Ran second test with a pitch of 15 degrees. RPM averaged out to 5,300. …

Return Line
Brenda: Use the existing 1/4 return you installed going to the fuel tank. You shorten the forward line in the cockpit area and connect it to the manifold. If you can email me at russra@windstream.net. Its easier than trying to go through 12 town every time I email. Ron

Flying the RV12 Viking Today
Before flying today I took two 5 gallon fuel containers to my local Kroger fuel station. Got my .03 discount and purchased 10 gallons at $3.17 for 87 ethanol. Topped off airplane and prepared to fly. Takeoff is always exciting as by the time I have full throttle I'm in the air. I love it when I look down at the terminal about 250 feet above it and look at the guys standing outside watching and listing to my takeoff. Its very quiet. I cruised over five of the local airports at 4500 msl…

Viking Fuel Line
I just got back from CZL after flying the RV12 Honda Viking for 1.8 hours. The fuel line going from the fuel manifold to the engine is under high pressure, about 45 PSI. The fuel injection line is 5/16 and purchased from local auto store. Fuel injection requires high pressure from the pumps to the engine. You have two clear plastic fuel filters which take low fuel pressure before the fuel pump. There is a high pressure fuel filter just before the fuel enters the engine. The Rotax…

Viking Fuel Lines
Brenda: Return fuel line is Vans. All Vans lines from fuel tank to low pressure are Vans. I can't remember what size I used for thee Viking but its only the flexible line from the high pressure side to the engine. Ron Russ

Fuel Line sizing
What size supply and return lines are being used for the Viking installation?
The original Van's lines are 3/8" supply and 1/4" return.
Is the 1/4" return adequate?
